Jeffrey Zaslow, author of a number of inspirational books including The Last Lecture, The Girl from Ames, and Highest Duty, has come out with a brand new book telling the story of Becker’s Bridal in Fowler, Michigan. Through the bridal shop, Zaslow tells the story of four generations of a family featuring eight women who have over the decades built one of the nation’s best bridal stores. Though their town is small, the store features upwards of 2,500 dresses and has helped provide magical weddings for over 100,000 brides-to-be.

The book recounts many stories throughout the decades, including both the perfect weddings that go on without a hitch as well as the difficult truth that some weddings end in disappointment and tragedy. However, throughout, Zaslow finds that the power of love ties everything together and is worth risking both personal relationships and one’s business to find and support.

We couldn’t help but be overwhelmed by the emotion of the brides and the wonderful happy stories that many of them end up telling. We don’t know if we’ll ever pass by Fowler, Michigan, but if we do, Zaslow’s story has affected so much that we would have to step in to have a look for ourselves at the fabled Magic Room!
